OK, you're probably wondering, if I went to Germany to see my new grandson why is there a picture of the Statue of Liberty heading this up instead of Mathias.  The simple explanation is, we didn't get there!  Seems a huge storm pounded the northeast Wednesday and shut down Newark Airport, where we were to change planes to Cologne, along with many others in the area.  So, after about a several hour delay at Lambert in St. Louis, where we actually boarded the plane once only to taxi up and down the runway and then deplane and wait some more, we of course missed our connecting flight.  After finally making it to Newark we find out that they cannot get us to Germany until late on Friday and we would arrive in Germany sometime on Saturday.  And this would have meant flying to London and catching another plane to Cologne.  We wound up finding a room in an old Travellodge in a town outside Newark, which was better than most of our fellow travelers were doing.  Thursday morning we were on the phone again trying to find a flight anywhere!  Couldn't even get back to St. Louis until Friday!  No luggage of course, according to Continental Airlines it was probably going to wind up in Cologne.  Due to the fact we had to fly back on Monday morning we wound up canceling our flight and getting a return flight to St. Louis Friday morning.  Rented a car and decided to make the best of our two night stay over in New Jersey.  Headed up towards New York for some sightseeing and toured Ellis Island and Liberty Island.  So that's why there is a picture of the Statue of Liberty.  Oh, and our luggage, seems Continental managed to get one of my bags on the flight back to St. Louis but the other two might still be in Newark according to the baggage claim person at Lambert.  Check out some pictures of the aborted trip here:

Our failed trip to Germany

Saturday, May 19th, 2007  Checked Continental's website to check on our bags and it said they would be delivered within 2 to 4 hours of 8 PM Friday.  Looked outside this morning and our bags were on my front porch.  No phone call, no doorbell, just left them on the porch.
