Classic Motorcycles Museum A friend of mine, Wayne DeWitt, used to race dirt bikes many years ago. He was associated with Dave Larsen from Dave Mungenast Honda in St. Louis as a friend and fellow racer. Recently Wayne invited me to the Classic Motorcycles Museum here in St. Louis. The museum has been around for about 5 years now. It is housed in the original Dave Mungenast Toyota dealership building at 5625 Gravois, just west of Bates. Dave Larsen now oversees the museum and gave us a personal tour of it. They have about 200+ motorcycles, quite a bit of old garage and service station items along with many old pictures. Although the museum predominantly has dirt bikes there are many special bikes on display including the one Steve McQueen rode in the movie "The Great Escape", a fully restored Indian board track racer and a 1939 Willow enclosed sidecar that seats two! For more information on museum and it's hours of operation go to: http://www.classicmotorcyclesllc.com Admission is free, tell Dave Larsen that I sent you and he will take good care of you. The museum is still a work in progress but any motorcycle enthusiast will appreciate the old Nortons, Moto-Guzzis, Indians, Triumphs and BSA motorcycles on display. While you're there pick up a Classic Motorcycles Museum T-shirt, all of the money collected goes to the Boys Club of St. Louis. Check out some pictures I took while we were there at: http://www.captainweil.com/ClassicMotorcyclesMuseum Enjoy, Darryll |
